As many of you have been aware
of for some time, the Cystic Fibrosis Center and UAB have been planning a
transition of care for adult CF patients from The Children's Hospital of
Alabama to the University of Alabama Hospital and The Kirklin Clinic.
After more 2 years of planning, the time for that transition has arrived!!!
Over the next several months,
the care of adult patients with CF will gradually move down the street to
University Hospital and Kirklin, and the transition should be complete by
early Summer 2001.
This transition is the result of
a tremendous amount of effort and planning by the CF Care Team at Children's
and the newly developed CF Care Team at UAB. We have put in place a
comprehensive plan of care for the adults who will be coming to University
Hospital and The Kirklin Clinic. A very important milestone in the
development of the program came when Joy St. John joined the CF Adult Care
Team in October 2000 as the Adult CF Program Nurse Coordinator. As most
of you know, Joy has worked for a number of years on the Adolescent Unit at
Children's and she recently completed her Master's Degree as a Nurse
Practitioner from the Samford University School of Nursing. She is
well-known by almost all of the adult CF patients and will be an invaluable
member of the team.
