From The Editor

by Brett Vebber

For those of you reading CFHeart2Heart for the first time, I hope that this has been an encouraging issue for you.  The first time we hear the words “terminal”, “sick”, or “disease,” we tend to think the worst and fears galore are stirred up because we may feel out of control for the first real time in our life.  I know CF causes me to continually live knowing that I am not always in control.

To the rest of the community, I hope that this has been a thought provoking issue because we must continually remind ourselves of hope.   It is easy to get caught in to the daily routines and forget that our children need to grow in hope as the life expectancy grows each year.  I used to believe I would never be able to work, where now the question is, “where do I work?”

Why do bad things happen to good people?  I can’t answer that age-old question, but I do know one thing.  Rain falls on the just and the unjust, and God’s grace and love are given to all regardless of the perceived bad at the moment.  The focus on this issue of Hope was done to allow all of the families in the Cystic Fibrosis community to know that we have come a long way over the last twenty years in this fight for life.

CFHeart2Heart is written to educate and encourage families with cystic fibrosis, equipping them with information and ideas assisting them to train their children in hope to lead productive lives.  We pick one topic each issue and try to give the perspective of staff, parents, and patients.

Please continue to correspond as we try to build a strong community to help one another.  Spring is here and we want to look at how to know when your child is sick.  The summer issue will focus on preparing families with children who have CF to start school in the fall.  If you have questions and comments, please mail them to:
